New SAT Test to be Released for Fall of 2015

The new version of the SAT college preparatory and admissions exam will be unveiled in the fall of 2015.

David Coleman, the president of the College Board, the nonprofit organization that owns the SAT, sent the following email to all college board members about the release:

“We have made the decision to adjust schedule for this will and will now release the revised PSAT/NMSQT in fall 2015, followed by the release of the new SAT that will begin testing in Spring of 2016.

College Board’s top priority remains the same: to work in partnerships with members and delvier an assessment system that best serves high education and its students to propel further toward success in college and career.

The change in timing of the redesigned test will serve our high education members by providing two years to plan for the redesigned exam and familiarize with changes and how to meet system and publication requirements, as well as learn how to best interpret the results for students.

States and districts have also reached out to College Board. The K-12 community has a strong preference to be able to take the revised PSAT/NMSQT before administering the revised SAT, to learn how to best prepare for the new SAT. Releasing the PSAT in 2015 will address that need.

Coleman, co-author of the Common Core English/Language Arts Exams became president of the College Board in 2012 and said earlier this year that the SAT would be rewritten to better suit the needs of students. Since its first test in 1926, the SAT was the most popular college admissions exam, but last year the ACT overtook it.
