As summer approaches, many individuals prepare for vacations, fun in the sun, and the normal rites of passage that come with higher temperatures and sunny skies. However, for some families, summer also marks a time of remembrance and reflection of happy memories created in years’ past. Such is the case for the Hasler family, organizers of The Brad Hasler Memorial Fund. The family, who lost Captain Brad Hasler in Afghanistan in April 2013, has marked this summer as a time to honor their fallen loved one. Hasler, a civilian military contractor, died when his plane went down shortly after take-off in Afghanistan. The Brad Hasler Memorial Fund is proud to announce its first annual charity golf tournament set for July 19, 2014 at Willow Metro Park Golf Course in New Boston, Michigan. The golf tournament is set to contribute to the established Memorial Trust Fund; proceeds from the Golf Tournament will go toward a college scholarship for an aspiring aviator and toward the college educations of his daughters.
“It was very important for my father-in-law, Bill Hasler, to find a way to honor Brad’s memory, and I wanted to find a way to give back to the community,” stated Robin Hasler, widow of Brad Hasler. “One of my husband’s favorite summer past times was golf, and he always got together with his father, family, and friends to play. We figured this might be a great opportunity to bring people together, remember Brad, and also raise funds for a cause that was very near and dear to him: education.”
A 1996 alumni of Gabriel Richard Catholic High School in Riverview, Michigan, Brad Hasler stressed the importance of education to his wife and his young daughters in his life. Robin Hasler, a recent graduate of Wayne State University’s Master’s program in Social Work, decided that setting up a scholarship program in her husband’s name to benefit a graduating senior of his alma mater would be a great way to honor his memory.
“It is the hope of my father-in-law, Bill Hasler, that we can get people really excited about participating and ultimately, allow a high school student to receive a very positive start in their academic life,” commented Hasler. “Therefore, we invite all of our family, friends, and the community to participate in this event.”
Currently, The Brad Hasler Memorial Fund is searching for corporate and individual sponsors to participate in the event. There are a number of sponsorship levels open for contribution, including a $300.00 tee-box sponsor that provides for two golfers to participate in the event, advertising at one hole on the golf course, food and drink at the turn, and entry into an after party that will include food, drinks, dancing, children’s activities, raffles, and a silent auction. There is also a $100.00 sponsorship available that provides for advertising and entry into the after party event. Individual tickets to the party scheduled for after the golf event are available for $15.00.
The tournament is scheduled for a 9:00a.m. shotgun start at Willow Metro Park. The celebratory party has an approximate start time of 3:00p.m. Companies or individuals who are interested in serving as a sponsor, or donating goods or services to the silent auction, are encouraged to contact Robin Hasler for more information and registration forms. The Memorial Fund’s PayPal email address is CaptainBradEricHasler@gmail.com and all communication should be directed to haslergolf@gmail.com.
“The tournament and party will be a day to remember,” commented Hasler. “Nothing can replace my husband—but I know he would be very proud of this effort, and he always loved a good party. I’m looking forward to getting family, friends, and community members together with the intent of doing something very good for a deserving student, and also having some fun.”
