Illinois Author Honored as Finalist in 2014 National Indie Excellence® Awards

LAFOX, Ill. (June 17, 2014) – “The Magician’s Doll,” authored by LaFox, Ill.-based M.L. Roble, recently received national recognition from the 8th Annual 2014 National Indie Excellence® Awards.

Roble’s book was selected as a finalist for the Pre-teen Fiction category, based on overall excellence of presentation in addition to the writing. The winners and finalists represent a diverse group of first-time and seasoned authors, major self-publishing groups, and first-time publishing efforts

“We are proud to announce the winners and finalists whose books truly embody the excellence that this award was created to celebrate, and we salute you all for your fine work,” said Ellen Reid, president and chief executive officer of National Indie Excellence® Awards.

Based in Beverly Hills, Calif., the National Indie Excellence® Awards exists to help establish independent publishing as a strong and proud facet of the publishing industry. Recognizing authors that put their heart and soul into their work, the National Indie Excellence® Awards is proud to be a champion of self-publishers and small and independent presses that go the extra mile to produce books of excellence in every aspect. Awarded since 2007, the National Indie Excellence® Awards competition is judged by independent experts from all aspects of the indie book industry, including publishers, writers, editors, book cover designers and professional copywriters. The prestigious award is open to all English-language books in print, including small, medium, university, self and independent publishers.

The award helps to solidify “The Magician’s Doll” as a well-crafted middle-grade fantasy book that grips the imagination in an unusual way. The book has garnered favorable reviews among readers, who describe it as “deliciously dark,” “a ripping tale,” “an outstanding pleasure” and “remarkable.” Roble is thrilled to have “The Magician’s Doll” recognized by the National Indie Excellence Awards. “Given its low exposure as an independently-published book, readers may be pleasantly surprised to discover it as a great read,” she said.

Another surprising aspect of “The Magician’s Doll” is its broad appeal. Boys enjoy the story, even though the protagonist is a girl. Adults can relish it as well. “The story is a really fun ride: you can just jump on and go,” Roble said.

As indicated by the recent award, “The Magician’s Doll” is a book that is well worth reading. So is Roble’s other work, “Encounter Way: A Novella of Supernatural Suspense.” Both are currently available at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.

In addition to being an acclaimed writer, Roble is a lover of great stories, whether recounted through novels, movies, television, plays or individuals. Her penchant for good storytelling, coupled with the nostalgia she gained from devouring books like "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "The Shattered Stone," propelled her desire to craft a children’s novel. “The Magician’s Doll” is a testament to Roble’s passion for storytelling and diligent efforts to establish herself as a master of suspense.
