The Mark Ward Kia, Chrysler, and Dodge dealership announces the transfer of its Kia franchise location. The company located in Carbondale is expected to transfer into its recently purchased building off Illinois 13 near the Jackson County Line. The former Ike’s Auto Park dealership will be the new franchise location of one of southern Illinois’ leading car dealers for Kia, Dodge, and Chrysler automobiles. Carterville Mayor Bill Mausey stated that there have been negotiations between the local tax increment finance district committee and the dealership’s owner Mark Ward. “We had another meeting to finalize it” expressed the mayor of Carterville about the said negotiations. The owner, Mark Ward has also expressed his delight in his blog with the ongoing transactions.
The property was bought from Ike’s dealership and its owner Edward “Ike” Eigenrauch. The auto park property and nearby areas were subjects of interest after Carterville city officials developed plans for a TIF district in 2009. Eigenrauch was one of the attendees during the planning and shared his previous decision of transferring his own dealership to Marion after they offered a TIF district in their city. The auto park area in Illinois 13 was vacant for many years until the forming of the TIF district in early 2010. TIF districts were created through Illinois law in the early 80s. When businesses are designated TIF property holders, a portion of their property taxes are rescinded for a period of time provided that they undertake redevelopments such as expansion of their properties and businesses. Whatever property taxes the district loses during this period of time is gained back through future development and potential expansion.
Carterville Mayor Mausey is still unsure on when the relocation will happen but Mark Ward expressed in his blog that the transfer will be done shortly as there are only few more things left to finalize. The company expressed its delight over the great tax incentives and hoped to provide a better customer service from their new location.
