DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- On Saturday 20th April Mothers and Members of Mumzworld.com joined together at Za’abeel Park in Dubai to offer their strength, time and understanding to those families and friends of autism sufferers who face the challenges of caring for their children physically, mentally and financially every day. Participation exceeded 8000 visitors.
Mumzworld’s support of the global Autism Society, came in the form of a Silver sponso rship at this year’s Walk for Autism event, supporting the growth of public awareness educating the general public about autism, embracing those sufferers their families and friends, whilst at the same time raising funds to bring increased quality of life to those suffering from Autism.

There is a growing need for concern and awareness about Autism and since 1970 the Autism Society has been celebrating Autism Awareness Month, recognising April as a special opportunity for communities throughout the world to educate the public about autism and issues within the autism community.
Autism is a complex developmental disability and usually presents itself during the first three years of a person’s life. The condition is the result of a neurological disorder that has an effect on normal brain function affecting development of the person’s c ommunication, resulting in sufferers facing issues with non-verbal communication, a wide range of social interactions and activities that include an element of play and or banter. There is no known single cause of autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families worldwide support their children and increase their quality of life.
Research shows that currently in the United States of America there are 1.5 million individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and 80% of them are youngsters under the age of 22 years. In UAE alone a survey revealed that the number of autistic children in the UAE has doubled in the last two years. The cost for caring for a child with autism ranges from 3.5 million dollars to 5 million dollars and as Mums and families we now have the opportunity to add our part and better the lives of those in need.
