2013 83rd Texas Legislative Session

On January, 2013 former Congresswoman Gabriele Gifford and her husband, former astronaut, Mark Kelly held a news conference announcing a new website, Americans for Responsible Solution to "launch a national dialogue and raise funds to counter the gun lobby's influence.  The Gifford's will not find much support in the Republicans in Austin.

There will probably be other usual Texas legislative interest in issues such as tort reform, liability insurance, workers' compensation and highway safety.  Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) will be active in lobbying for tougher criminal laws against Drunk Drivers, better highway design and safety,

The mission statement of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to "stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking" and they have victim advocates nationwide who can help bereaved families and injured victims/survivors.

The Houston, Texas personal injury law firm of Ogletree, Abbott, Clay and Reed support MADD and concentrate their personal injury practice on representing victims of drunk driving accidents.  Senior partner Bill Ogletree said that "our personal injury law firm will always support MADD and file lawsuits against drunk drivers and seek high damage awards in Texas Courts."

Ogletree, Abbott, Clay and Reed represents more injured workers with Texas Workers' Compensation claims that any other Texas claimant law firm and will watch this legislative session to monitor changes in this Texas Workers' Compensation laws and rules.  Recent changes in Texas Workers Compensation include

Bill Ogletree also said that Texas injured workers still face an uphill battle to obtain good legal representation because of misinformation about the need to obtain a lawyer in the Texas Workers' Comp system.  Workers' Compensation

Those who oppose no-fault say that it there is no punishment of bad drivers, will increase the price of insurance and not allow for jury awards and settlements and result in workers compensation type of fixed compensation for certain injuries.  No-fault insurance is any type of insurance policy where the insured are paid for losses by their own insurance company, without regard to fault.  There is no different from first-party coverage.
